"Two policemen were killed, and two others injured on Friday as a result of an improvised explosive device (IED) blast on a police van in Peshwar. The attack took place in Akazai area of Torghar district. Jutba police official told Dawn.com that the police van was on a routine patrol." (06/20/14)

Pakistan: US drone terrorists murder six

"At least six suspected militants were killed in a US drone strike early Wednesday in the Miramshah tehsil of North Waziristan tribal region where a comprehensive military operation launched by the Pakistani army against foreign and local terrorists is also under way. Intelligence sources said six missiles fired by a drone hit a compound and a vehicle in Dargah Mandi village in Miramshah. The identities of those killed in the strikes have not yet been ascertained, sources said." (06/18/14)

Pakistan: Seven dead as police, religious party workers clash in Lahore

"At least seven people were killed on Tuesday when the Pakistani police clashed with followers of a fiery preacher in the eastern city of Lahore, hospital officials said. The clashes involved supporters of Canadian-Pakistani Tahir-ul-Qadri who held a major anti-corruption march last year prior to the May 2013 election that saw the country's first democratic handover of power. 'We received seven dead bodies including two women. All of them had bullet wounds,' said Dr Abdul Rauf, medical superintendent at the city's Jinnah Hospital." (06/17/14)

Pakistan: Courts lifts Musharraf travel ban

"An order from the Pakistan government preventing former military ruler Pervez Musharraf from travelling abroad has been struck down by a court. Under the ruling by the Karachi court, the government still has 15 days during to appeal against the decision. This means Mr Musharraf, who is facing treason charges, can not leave the country immediately. The ruling could pave the way for the man who ruled Pakistan for nearly a decade to leave the country after an embarrassing trial that saw him become the first chief of army staff to face treason charges." Officials say gunmen on motorbikes shot at a security training camp just outside the airport and fled. "The Pakistani Taliban has claimed responsibility for an hours-long attack at the country's largest and busiest airport that killed at least 28 people. Speaking from an undisclosed location, Pakistani Taliban commander Abdullah Bahar said the attack overnight at Karachi's Jinnah International Airport was retaliation for the death of former chief Hakimullah Mehsud. Mehsud was killed in a U.S. drone strike in November in North Waziristan. Bahar warned more attacks will follow." Pakistan: Seven killed in Taliban in-fighting

"Fresh clashes between the Pakistani Taliban and a breakaway faction killed at least seven militants in the country's northwest on Friday, officials said. The fighting erupted in the Wacha Mela area 65 kilometres (40 miles) west of Miramshah, the capital of North Waziristan tribal district. Almost 100 militants have been killed since supporters of commander Khalid Mehsud, alias Khan Said Sajna, and the followers of the slain former Taliban chief Hakimullah Mehsud began fighting in April." The two officers were on their way to work when they were attacked on the outskirts of the garrison city of Rawalpindi close to the capital. "At least seven people were killed and another seven injured after a Parachinar-bound passenger van hit an improvised explosive device (IED) in the Shagni area of Kurram Agency on Tuesday morning. The Datsun pick-up truck was traveling to Parachina from Khomosa. The IED detonated shortly after it entered Shagni, according to the political administrator. 'Four people died on the spot while three others succumbed to their injuries on the way to hospital,' said Assistant Political Agent Maqsood Hassan. "Gunmen in Pakistan shot dead a visiting American cardiologist from the minority Ahmadi sect in front of his wife and toddler son on Monday as they left a cemetery after visiting relatives' graves, police said. The two gunmen riding a motorcycle shot Mehdi Ali Qamar 10 times at close range in the central town of Chanab Nagar, police officer Shaukat Ali said, adding that Qamar's wife and son were not harmed. "The case against FBI agent, Joel Cox, who was arrested from Karachi's Jinnah International Airport for allegedly carrying ammunition and three knives onto an airplane, was formally dismissed on Monday after a request by the city's police was submitted before a judge in a Karachi court, DawnNews reported. Earlier during the day, police had submitted its final chargesheet in the case according to which Cox was issued a written authority letter by the US consulate to carry a weapon for his personal protection." "A senior medico-legal officer of the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre was killed with his driver in a targeted attack on Tuesday on Chaudhry Khaliq-uz-Zaman Road, near the place where a powerful rickshaw-planted bomb had exploded recently, according to officials. Dr Manzoor Memon, 45, left the JPMC in a chauffeur-driven car after performing his duty when two gunmen riding two motorcycles and wearing helmets attacked them near Askari-I apartments at around 4pm, said Karachi-South SSP Faisal Bashir Memon."
