"At least 10 people were killed and another nine wounded yesterday in an explosion at the home of a tribal leader in a restive area of northwest Pakistan, officials said. The blast came in a remote village in Khyber tribal district, close to the Afghan border in Tirah Valley, which last year saw fierce fighting between the Pakistani military and Taliban militants." As the nomination process for LB elections closed, seven candidates have been killed in the city in separate targeted attacks, including the four aspirants shot dead on Sunday. Pakistan: Female suicide bombers killed

"Alert security guards at an imambargah [in Karachi] on Tuesday foiled an attempt by two burqa-clad woman suicide bombers by killing one and injuring another. One of the women was shot dead whereas the other was critically injured as the guards at the imambargah or Shia prayer hall, opened fire on them. Security and rescue teams reached the site of incident and cordoned off the area as a probe into the incident went underway. Police officials later confirmed that both the women were equipped with explosives, media reports said." (12/18/13)

Pakistan: Three killed in separate polio shootings

"Gunmen have shot dead at least two policemen providing security to a team of polio workers in north-west Pakistan. A polio worker was also killed in a separate attack, local media have reported. The two policemen were travelling from the town of Swabi to Topi by motorbike when they were attacked. The polio worker was shot on the outskirts of Peshawar." (12/13/13)

Police said the suspected extortionists lobbed hand grenades at Zain medical clinic in Muzaffarabad colony of Landhi area yesterday and the resulting explosion killed one woman and injured five. "A blast in Lahore's Old Anarkali market area killed one person and injured at least a dozen others on Thursday, DawnNews reported. The Bomb Disposal Squad and security personnel also reached the site and cordoned off the area as a search operation went underway to clear out the vicinity. DIG operations of Lahore police, Muhammad Tahir Rai, said that the bomb was equipped with a timer device and confirmed that at least one person had died and at least a dozen others were injured in the attack."
