"An [Indian] army trooper was killed and two were injured in a militant attack near the Line of Control (LoC) Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday, an official said Monday. Two soldiers were injured Sunday in a landmine explosion in the Akhnoor area of the international border in the state. Sources said a patrol party had gone to evacuate the injured soldiers when it came under attack." (05/19/14)

"A senior medico-legal officer of the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre was killed with his driver in a targeted attack on Tuesday on Chaudhry Khaliq-uz-Zaman Road, near the place where a powerful rickshaw-planted bomb had exploded recently, according to officials. Dr Manzoor Memon, 45, left the JPMC in a chauffeur-driven car after performing his duty when two gunmen riding two motorcycles and wearing helmets attacked them near Askari-I apartments at around 4pm, said Karachi-South SSP Faisal Bashir Memon." Pakistan: Bomb, militant attacks kill ten regime troops

"At least nine paramilitary troops have been killed in a roadside bomb explosion in northwestern Pakistan near the border with Afghanistan while another soldier died in an assault further south. The army said in a statement that the bomb struck a military convoy near the town of Miran Shah in North Waziristan on Thursday, killing nine and injuring several troops. Shortly after the bomb attack, militants opened fire on a military checkpoint in the South Waziristan tribal region, leaving one soldier dead." (05/09/14)

"Five militants were killed and three injured as clashes between two factions of the proscribed Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) continued in North Waziristan Agency on Wednesday, sources said. The fighting erupted between the groups led by Sheher Yar and Khan Said alias Sajna in Shawal, a mountainous area near Afghan border, on Tuesday. "At least 12 militants died during a shootout between rival factions in a restive Pakistani tribal region near the Afghan border Tuesday, officials said, while two died in a separate attack. Supporters of Tehreek-e-Taliban commander Khan Said Sajna and followers of the late TTP leader Hakimullah Mehsud clashed in the Shawal area of the troubled North Waziristan district, a security official told AFP. The morning attack came as a group of militants were visiting the bazaar in Miranshah, the main town in North Waziristan, known as a stronghold of Taliban and Al-Qaeda linked militants. The Frontier Crops checkpost that came under attack is located along the border in Ghakhi area of Lovi Mamond tehsil, 30km from here. "A senior Taliban commander was killed in a security forces operation in northwestern Pakistan on Sunday, officials said. Matiullah, a senior commander of the Pakistani Taliban, an umbrella organization of different Taliban groups in Pakistan, was killed in a joint operation of police and paramilitary troops in the Dera Ismail Khan district of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. "Pakistani warplanes attacked insurgent hideouts in the tribal region near the Afghan border, killing 37 suspected militants and wounding 18, army officials said Thursday, as authorities hold peace negotiations with the Taliban. The airstrikes pounded two suspected hideouts in a remote area of Tirah Valley in the Khyber tribal region, three military officials said, speaking on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to talk to journalists. Pakistan: Nine killed in attacks in volatile northwest

"Nine people, including policemen, were killed and dozens wounded in two separate bomb and gun attacks in Pakistan's volatile northwest on Tuesday, police said, a week after the Taliban refused to extend a ceasefire with the government. Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif took power last year promising to end years of fighting with Taliban insurgents through peace negotiations. Talks began in February but have achieved little. On Tuesday, three people were killed and 33 others, including 12 policemen, were wounded in a bombing in the Charsadda district of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province during the morning rush hour." "The Pakistani Taliban yesterday said they would not extend a ceasefire called to help peace negotiations with the government, but insisted they were still committed to the talks process. The Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) announced a one-month ceasefire at the start of March as the government sought a negotiated end to their bloody seven-year insurgency. The TTP extended the ceasefire to April 10, but complained there had been 'complete silence' from the government since then and hinted that the military was trying to thwart talks." (04/17/14)

Musharraf has already been found guilty of the murder of former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto. If convicted of the charges he could face the death penalty. Her bullet-riddled and severely tortured body was found in a field on Monday morning. Salma Farooqui, 30, played an active role in the 'Sehat Ka Insaf' anti-polio campaign recently launched by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government despite having been threatened by some callers for doing so."
