Pakistan: US drone strike kills at least two

"A US led drone strike in northern Pakistani tribal region bordering Afghanistan killed at least two people and wounded another on Monday, said officials. A drone fired two missiles at a house situated in Mohammad Khel village of Datta Khel tehsil in North Waziristan tribal region, killing at least two people, according to State Television PTV. The target of the drone strike was a suspected militant compound and the people killed were alleged militants, said officials to the media as the number of casualties was expected to rise." The couple were shot on a busy thoroughfare near the National Stadium, a cricket venue, in the city's eastern district. 'Two gunmen riding a motorbike intercepted Captain Naveed's vehicle and opened fire, killing him on the spot,' local police official Tahir Naveed told AFP. He had only one name for the dead officer." According to police, two suspected militants were killed during a search operation by police in an alleged police encounter near Peerabad area of Korangi Town in Karachi city. "Four militants attacked a security forces' camp using heavy weaponry in Sara Rogh are of South Waziristan tribal region, according to security officials who wanted not to be named. Security personnel engaged in retaliatory firing killing three attackers whereas the fourth militant detonated a suicide vest he was wearing and blew himself up. The blast took place in the impoverished Lyari neighbourhood of the city after a football match on Wednesday.
