Regardless of the election, Americans can expect less privacy

"As far back as we can trace the American surveillance state, its defenders and detractors have transcended any consistent partisan divide. Republican president Theodore Roosevelt created what became the Federal Bureau of Investigation, against warnings from both parties. Democrat Woodrow Wilson oversaw a massive expansion of foreign and domestic intelligence during World War I. For forty-eight years, J. Edgar Hoover's FBI conducted spying on behalf of both parties' presidents, who were often eager for his assistance targeting political enemies. Both Republicans and Democrats targeted foreigners, allies, the far right, and the radical left." (08/08/16)

"The first time I heard on the news the revelation that Hillary Clinton, while U.S. Secretary of State, had surreptitiously deleted more than 30,000 emails from her unauthorized home based private server in order to hide them from public scrutiny, I suspected that the United States National Security Agency (NSA) had most likely collected them all in the same way it has collected all of everyone's emails just like Edward Snowden told us. Well, now my suspicion has been confirmed. According to William Binney, the man who designed the NSA's clandestine computer surveillance program, now turned whistleblower, the agency does indeed have all of Hillary's deleted emails and the FBI could access them if it wanted to. But it doesn't want to." (08/06/16)

According to a campaign official, the event was organized by supporters without any involvement from the campaign. ... Developing relationships with supporters in the security community makes sense for a campaign that's been plagued with a number of cybersecurity issues, most notably Clinton's email controversy. The Democratic National Committee recently revealed that it had been hacked, and some experts believe it is linked to the Russian government." (08/02/16)

Hillary may act like a dictator if elected, but that is not the worst problem

"Nobody who opposes the Clintons' technocratic and deeply authoritarian vision for America should have any illusions of what is to come if Hillary is elected to office. She will cloak her actions only perfunctory legal legitimacy. Really, she will not want to conceal her activities. She is not just driven to rule but to make it clear to the world that she is impervious to the ramifications of even the most exploitative and evil behavior. It is this second compulsion that in our view makes Hillary so dangerous. She won't merely act in a dictatorial fashion, she will do so in a way that purposefully aggravates the already deep fractures of American society and the polarizations of the electorate." Neither Clinton nor Trump would reduce the national debt

"Tonight's Democratic National Convention featured a brief video starring former Obama administration economic adviser Gene Sperling. Sperling brought up a topic we haven't heard a whole lot about at this year's DNC: the federal debt. His point was that GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump would be far worse for the national debt than Hillary Clinton. By all accounts, Sperling was right: Although Trump's economic plans are frustratingly vague and difficult to pin down, every credible attempt to estimate has found that his plans would massively increase total debt. ... But here's the thing: Hillary Clinton would also let the debt rise substantially. Under her plans, according to the same CRFB analysis, debt held by the public would rise from $14 trillion to $23.9 trillion over the next decade. Gross national debt would rise from $19 trillion to more than $29 trillion." (07/27/16)

A Clinton Foundation press release promised an industrial park that would create 'up to 60,000 jobs.' Just 7,000 jobs have been created. What the Foundation has managed to do is help Clinton 'friends.' One, Irish billionaire Denis O'Brien, runs Digicel, a company that wanted a grant to build Haiti's cellphone network. As revelations tumble out of the enormous data dump -- e.g. DNC staffers conspired to target Bernie Sanders, who is Jewish, as an 'atheist' -- the collusion of the party leadership with the Clinton campaign to marginalize Sanders threatens the Democrats with a potential explosion on the eve of their convention. It's 'gas meets flame,' as one Democratic party leader put it. Hillary Clinton’s dangerously coherent foreign policy

"To Clinton and other inheritors of Wilson's calling, Trump's specific sins are what some have crudely called isolationism. Rather than seek U.S. military dominance as a means to extend American influence, Trump has insisted that other nations bolster their militaries and defend themselves, which Clinton dismissively reduced to a demand to 'let more countries have nuclear weapons.' ... What Clinton offers instead of Trump's 'truly dangerous path' is a foreign policy built upon the classically Wilsonian idea that America 'is an exceptional country' that is the 'last, best hope on earth.' She promises to 'secure American leadership' and to prove, through diplomacy and military action, that 'our country represents something special, not just to us, [but] to the world.' Unfortunately, presidents with these coherent ideas have been the most dangerous of all." (07/25/16)

However, if all he does is scare people away then all it will mean is an internal GOP conflict where they fight over how conservative they should or shouldn't be. If you want to see them fundamentally change (as opposed to just recalibrating) then some of those voters need to bolt for someone other than Hillary Clinton. Otherwise the only real fact on the ground will be that the Trumpeters were there and ran the show and while they failed they were at least there, unlike the guys who bolted. Plus, it's not like Mitt Romney (surely a moderate in comparison with Trump!) exactly rocked the world in 2012. I don't want to be in a country where one of the two parties is in a negotiation between Ted Cruz and the Trumpeters. I hold out hope that a showing of support for Gary Johnson could shake it up by turning that GOP civil war into a 3-way battle." (07/23/16)

To this point Trump has shown an almost magical ability to overcome obstacles (many of them self-generated) that would have destroyed any other candidate for the presidency. On the road to Cleveland he vanquished no fewer than 16 rivals, including some of the biggest names in the GOP.
