What the Wikileaks emails say about Clinton

"'There is no other Donald Trump,' Hillary Clinton likes to say about her opponent. 'This is it.' The events of the last two weeks -- Trump's two debate performances, the release of his bawdy comments about women in a 2005 video clip, his lashing out against Republicans who are deserting him -- have proven Clinton correct on that count. But the leak of thousands of hacked email exchanges among Clinton's top advisers suggest the same can be said about her -- at least in her role as a public figure. They capture a candidate, and a campaign, that seems in private exactly as cautious, calculating, and politically flexible as they appeared to be in public." (10/12/16)

Emails: Chelsea flagged “serious concerns” about Clinton Foundation conflicts

Politico

"Chelsea Clinton flagged 'serious concerns' about her father's closest aides trying to cash in by using the former president's name to gain access to government officials on behalf of paying clients, according to hacked emails released this week. The emails, which were disseminated by WikiLeaks, reveal bitter tensions within the Clintons' inner circle that were inflamed when Chelsea Clinton tried to put an end to practices that blurred the line between the foundation, governments and a consulting firm called Teneo that paid Bill Clinton. Some of the concerns raised by the former first daughter echo attacks that have been dogging her mother, Hillary Clinton, during her presidential campaign." (10/12/16)

Trump campaign notes DoJ collusion with Clinton over email probe

October 11, 2016

Daily Mail [UK]

"The Department of Justice is facing allegations of 'collusion' over its handling of the probe into Hillary Clinton's secret email server. Donald Trump's campaign questioned the integrity of the investigation after an email on Wikileaks in which one of Clinton's aides said he had had 'DOJ folks inform me' about a hearing. The actual message was not part of the leak beyond an apparent start to it saying: 'Hey Brian, This was filed tonight.' The message, from Brian Fallon, her national press spokesman, was sent to Huma Abedin, her right-hand woman, and appears to have been copied to John Podesta, whose emails were leaked." (10/11/16)

Hillary Clinton, closet libertarian? Not likely.

"'My dream,' Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton is alleged to have said in a 2013 speech to an audience in the banking industry, 'is a hemispheric common market, with open trade and open borders.' The quote comes from an email addressed to (among others) Clinton campaign chair John Podesta, released late last week by Wikileaks. The speech excerpts were -- probably not coincidentally -- overshadowed by the release of an 11-year-old recording of Republican nominee Donald Trump making lewd and demeaning remarks about using his star power to bully women into sexual liaisons. But in my opinion they're at least as important. Everyone already knew that Trump was a slimy misogynist. Nobody, at least outside Wall Street and Clinton's inner circle, knew what she got paid millions of dollars to say behind closed doors." (10/10/16)

Clinton shows how she manages to be less trusted than Trump

"During last night's presidential debate, Hillary Clinton bragged about her record during three decades in public life, but she neglected to mention what may be her most impressive accomplishment: She is mistrusted by more Americans than the legendary liar Donald Trump. Last night Clinton's handling of questions about her private email server and her private speeches showed how she managed that feat. ... The email scandal illustrates Clinton's tendency to pile lie upon lie instead of coming clean. She seems to be starting down that road with the excerpts from her closed-door speeches that Wikileaks revealed on Friday." (10/10/16)

Clinton, Trump grump together on TV a second time

Los Angeles Times Los Angeles Times

"Facing a fierce backlash within his own party, Donald Trump sought to rally Republicans to his side Sunday night with a scorching debate attack on Hillary Clinton, suggesting he would seek to criminally prosecute his political foe if elected president. Clinton, standing just a few feet away, responded by saying that a tawdry videotape of Trump boasting about groping women showed his true nature and proved he was resoundingly unfit to serve as commander in chief. The series of acrimonious exchanges, which began moments into the 90-minute session and rarely let up, resulted in the nastiest and most personally vicious presidential debate of modern times." Bill Clinton slams ObamaCare: “It’s the craziest thing in the world”

The Hill The Hill

"Former President Bill Clinton steamrolled President Obama's signature healthcare law as 'the craziest thing in the world.' At a rally on Monday in Flint, Mich., Clinton blasted the core principles of ObamaCare as unworkable as he pitched a new system that would allow people to buy into Medicare or Medicaid. ... Clinton's remarks while campaigning for his wife, Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton, run in direct contrast to her previous promises to build on ObamaCare. While acknowledging problems like rising drug costs, Hillary Clinton has largely embraced the healthcare law and criticized her Republican opponent, Donald Trump, for his repeated promise to repeal the law. Bill Clinton, whose own attempts at broad healthcare reform failed during his presidency in the 1990s, suggested on Monday that he supported an entirely new approach." (10/04/16)

Breakfast with Bill Weld

"The question that always haunts third-party tickets is whether they will play spoiler to one of the major parties. This year, the Libertarians were initially assumed to be a problem for the Republicans: The ticket consists, after all, of two former Republican governors, Weld and former New Mexico Governor Gary Johnson. For the many GOP voters repulsed by Trump, the Libertarians could be an appealing alternative. But Johnson and Weld also appear to be drawing votes from Clinton, particularly from young people who prefer their live-and-let-live idealism to her baggage-laden wonkery. This is not the way Weld thinks it ought to be. He believes Clinton is wrong on policy, particularly fiscal and military matters -- but Trump is unthinkable." (10/03/16)

It is also likely a large number of discontented voters will simply stay home on Election Day. Both candidates are among the most unpopular and least trusted in American history. One of them will end up in the White House. How did we get here? Why are the only two mainstream candidates left standing Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump?" (09/27/16)

House Oversight Committee holds Clinton IT aide in contempt of Congress

"The House Oversight Committee voted Thursday morning on party lines to hold former State Department IT technician Bryan Pagliano in contempt of Congress. Pagliano was responsible for setting up Clinton's private email server during her tenure as secretary of State. The former State Department employee declined to appear at an Oversight hearing on Clinton's server last week, in spite of a subpoena demanding his presence. The committee held a follow-up hearing on the same subject on Thursday morning, which Pagliano also declined to attend. ... Oversight members on Thursday morning reviewed an immunity agreement struck between Pagliano and the Department of Justice during the FBI's investigation into Clinton's server, according to a Democratic committee aide. 'Under those circumstances, Mr. Pagliano has no fear of criminal liability preventing him from testifying before the committee,' Chaffetz said Thursday. Democrats say that the agreement is 'limited' and therefore does not protect Pagliano before the Oversight Committee. " (09/21/16)

The Reddit posts in question come from a user named stonetear, and were made in July and December 2014. @GOPPollAnalyst, the woman who unearthed the posts, claims stonetear is Paul Combetta, a computer specialist with Platte River Networks who worked with Clinton's staff during her time as secretary of state. Scrutiny of Trump Foundation deepens

September 21, 2016

The Hill The Hill

"Donald Trump's campaign is grappling with new allegations that the GOP nominee used his charitable foundation to pay personal expenses. On Tuesday, The Washington Post published tax and legal documents alleging Trump's foundation spent $258,000 to settle lawsuits that involved Trump's for-profit businesses. The latest allegation comes after Trump's foundation was found to have made an improper $25,000 donation to a group supporting Florida's Attorney General Pam Bondi (R). That donation came at the same time her office was considering whether to investigate a fraud lawsuit against Trump University. The Republican also reportedly used foundation money to buy two portraits of himself. The scrutiny of Trump’s foundation is deepening at a time when Hillary Clinton is facing allegations from Republicans that the Clinton Foundation was running a corrupt 'pay-to-play' operation while she was secretary of State. The issue could come up during Monday's first presidential debate." (09/20/16)

Millennial voters may cost Hillary Clinton the election

Should her collapse today cause her to withdraw her candidacy? The answer is clearly yes. Immediately after her collapse, Clinton proxies flew into action. A Democratic Member of Congress from New York told CNN that the memorial service was indeed a sweltering event. A CNN talking head endorsed this.
