"I see that MSNBC finally called Pennsylvania and Wisconsin (and, therefore, the election) for Trump, with New Hampshire, Michigan, Minnesota, and Arizona still up in the air. Of the states where the winner is known, I predicted 44 of 46 accurately. I'm under the impression I had a better predictive outing than most pollsters, pundits, and analysts this year. That and five bucks will get me an iced white chocolate mocha latte at Starbucks. But you know I'm going to brag about it for the next two to four years, right?" (11/09/16)

He told cheering supporters that Americans must now unite and 'bind the wounds of division,' after a gruelling, acrimonious campaign. FBI goes back to pretending Clinton isn’t a crook

FBI Director James Comey made the announcement in a letter to Congress, saying the agency had worked 'around the clock' to complete its review of newly discovered emails and found no reason to change its July finding [that Hillary Clinton shouldn't be prosecuted because she's Hillary Clinton]." "As final voting in the 2016 US presidential election approaches, questions continue to swirl around Wikileaks and its release of an email archive copied from the personal files of John Podesta, Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton's campaign chair. It would be impossible, in the space of a single column, to fully consider the content and implications of those emails. There are, however, two relevant questions which those interested in the matter should carefully consider. First, are the emails authentic and unaltered? ... Secondly, is the Podesta email hack an attempt by Vladimir Putin to affect the election?" (11/03/16)

New emails suggest coordination between State Department and Clinton camp

"New revelations from the emails of Hillary Clinton campaign head John Podesta on Wednesday appeared to show coordination between the State Department and the Democrat's campaign. The stolen emails released by Wikileaks suggested that a government official may have tipped Clinton off that news was about to break about the private email server she used as Secretary of State. The message, dated March 1, 2015, came from Department of State press aid Lauren Hickey. In it, she describes having 'just cleared' a reply to a New York Times reporter about to publish the story. The mail also seemed to imply that the reply to the newspaper had been altered at the Clinton camp's behest ..." (11/02/16)

Why Emailgate matters

November 3, 2016

"Polls show that over 60 per cent of US citizens find Clinton untrustworthy and dishonest. This isn't simply due to Republican propaganda -- there is an underlying problem with Clinton, and her emails are part of that problem. Of course, Republicans have, and will, undertake partisan attacks on Clinton, including pressing the email issue for political advantage. But it is notable that they haven't been able to pursue scandals with Obama, which they surely would if they could. Clinton gives them lots of material to work with, while Obama doesn't. In public, Clinton's campaign staff play down Clinton's email issue. But, as recent Wikileaks revelations show, in private they recognise the seriousness of the situation." (11/02/16)

Worse than Watergate? Revisiting the Clinton email fiasco

"The reemergence of the email fiasco speaks to old questions about whether Clinton violated federal law, and a new question -- is the comparison to Watergate appropriate? John W. Dean, a former counsel to Richard Nixon and co-conspirator in the Watergate scandal weighed in on this in a recent New York Times op-ed arguing that the comparison is 'nonsense.' More specifically, Dean argues about Clinton: 'She was unaware that a few classified items -- some of which were classified after the fact -- were in her private email system. Unlike Nixon, she has apologized. The F.B.I. record also shows that -- again, unlike Nixon -- she had no criminal intent in any of her actions.' Dean's words are unlikely to convince political opponents and critics of Clinton, but the question still stands: did Clinton violate federal law by disseminating classified materials?" (11/02/16)

Wikileaks: Released memo reveals how Bill Clinton profited from the Clinton Foundation

The Senate should refuse to confirm all of Hillary Clinton’s judicial nominees

"When Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell announced the #NoHearingNoVote position, he argued that, given the nation's polarization and that the next justice could swing the balance of the Supreme Court, this election-year vacancy should be filled by the people’s choice. It was a principled position, but a controversial and risky one. Yet McConnell's calculus has been borne out. ... But the McCain volley, launched while campaigning for embattled Pennsylvania Sen. Pat Toomey, is something new: are Republicans really planning to keep that seat empty for four (even eight) years if Clinton wins? (Presumably this would be in a scenario where they keep the Senate; Democrats would surely get rid of the filibuster if it came to that.) Doesn't that expose their motivations as purely partisan regardless of their high-minded rhetoric?" (10/26/16)
