Earth Day: 22 ways to think about the climate change debate

"Trying to point out the problems of the Climate Orthodoxy to its adherents is like trying to talk the Archbishop of Canterbury into questioning the existence of God. In that green temple, many climatologists and climate activists have become one in the same: fueled both by government grants and zealous fervor. But the debate must go on, even as the atmosphere for dialogue gets increasingly polluted. The sacralization of climate is being used as a great loophole in the rule of law, an apology for bad science (and even worse economics), and an excuse to do anything and everything to have and keep power." Thankfully, a California congresswoman is introducing legislation to save our women from a life of ill repute." (04/10/15)

Their campaign for draconian energy regulations and a new global warming treaty is no exception. Rubbish. It has nothing to do with morality. It's all about money, power and control." (04/06/15)

How to shrink the government’s carbon footprint

"Barack Obama wants to shrink the federal government's 'carbon footprint.' This is a wonderful idea that all limited government conservatives, constitutionalists, and above all, libertarians, should wholeheartedly support. Too bad Obama's plan will hardly make a dent in the volume or the severity of the federal government's noxious emissions. ... Libertarians have a better idea on how to shrink the federal government's carbon footprint, an idea that will save American taxpayers even more money and have far greater and more permanent results." Forty years of media hype for climate alarmists

"In a great post at the MRC site, Seymour notes that the stone tablets brought down from the priests of climatology in the 70s have since been ground to sand -- as will those of today's climate alarmists. A while after the report below, the 'coming Ice Age' was replaced by 'run-away global warming,' which was then replaced by 'catastrophic man-caused climate change,' 'global weirding,' and other nonsense. None of the actual science has borne this out, mind you. But the media, and the world's governments, must continue to perpetuate the notion that humans need to be strictly controlled, lest the earth be destroyed. Funny how that is always the default position after government-approved 'scientists' weigh in." (04/04/15)

Obama submits “ambitious” global warming plan

"The U.S. formally submitted to the United Nations a commitment to reduce its climate-warming greenhouse gas emissions by up to 28% below 2005 levels by 2025. The commitment is aimed in part at spurring other countries to announce their plans ahead of a major round of international climate negotiations in Paris in December. Commitments from the U.S., Mexico, the E.U. and others now amount to nearly 60% of the world’s energy-related carbon emissions, according to the White House announcement, which was made in blog post on Medium." FL: Officials ban term “climate change”

March 9, 2015

Miami Herald

"The state of Florida is the region most susceptible to the effects of global warming in this country, according to scientists. Sea-level rise alone threatens 30 percent of the state's beaches over the next 85 years. But you would not know that by talking to officials at the Florida Department of Environmental Protection, the state agency on the front lines of studying and planning for these changes. DEP officials have been ordered not to use the term 'climate change' or 'global warming' in any official communications, emails, or reports, according to former DEP employees, consultants, volunteers and records obtained by the Florida Center for Investigative Reporting. The policy goes beyond semantics and has affected reports, educational efforts and public policy in a department with about 3,200 employees and $1.4 billion budget." (03/08/15)

"Global warming has a pause button? Who knew? It 'seems to have paused since the turn of the millennium,' reports James Maynard at Tech Times, 'but climatologists believe this slowdown is not a reason for celebration.' The pause, they say, may be due to cooling of the Pacific Ocean since the last El Nino cycle, and warming will probably re-start with the next such cycle. Climatologist Michael Mann of Penn state calls it a 'false pause' and notes that none of the explanations offered for it 'involve climate models being fundamentally wrong.' Perhaps that's the problem. Maybe the global climate just does what it does instead of what Michael Mann's models decree it must do." (03/01/15)

"Advocates for energy policies to mitigate non-existent global warming caused by carbon dioxide from burning fossil fuels such as President Obama's Climate Action Plan use global temperature data as the main argument for their actions. It is senseless to use such questionable data for making decisions that have economic costs of trillions of dollars and lead to lower living standards for those in the United States. Of possibly even greater consequences are these policies condemn those living in poor countries to perpetual poverty. It was abundant, cheap fossil fuels of coal, oil, and natural gas that uplifted developed nations from the drudgery, misery, and shortened lifespans of the eighteenth century and earlier. Perhaps the best response to the falsification of global temperatures is the June 9, 1954 words of attorney Joseph Welch during the 30th day of the McCarthy-Army hearings in which Senator Joseph McCarthy unjustly accused Americans of being dangerous Communists. Mr. Welch said, 'You have done enough. Have you no sense of decency, Sir?'" (02/22/15)

"Climate Crisis, Inc. has a huge vested interest in climate alarmism -- not merely part of $1 million over a ten-year span, but hundreds of billions of dollars in government, industry, foundation and other money during the past couple decades. Some of it is open and transparent, but much is hidden and suspect. Between 2003 and 2010, the US government alone spent over $105 billion in taxpayer funds on climate and renewable energy projects. ... Billions more went to government regulators, who coordinate many of these activities and develop regulations that are often based on secretive, deceptive pre-ordained 'science,' sue-and-settle lawsuits devised by con artist John Beale, and other tactics. Politicians receive millions in campaign cash and in-kind help from these organizations and their unions, to keep them in office and the gravy train on track." (02/12/15)

Fossil fuel divestment: Economically reckless and morally callous

"In another trendy move, environmentalist shareholder activists are pressuring energy companies in which they invest to scale back in part or completely their interests in oil, gas and coal. For example, Danielle Fugere, president and chief counsel at the As You Sow religious shareholder activist outfit, told The Guardian last month that 'market fundamentals' are changing. 'We see a whole number of factors moving markets away from fossil fuels -- pollution, technology changes, efficiency increases, competition from low-cost renewables,' she said. 'We're seeing the market changing -- the world is moving to cleaner resources, and these energy companies have to move with the market or they’ll get replaced.' This writer begs to differ, noting that fossil fuels in the developing world are driving the availability of electricity, sanitation, clean drinking water and refrigeration. Yet the leftist anti-fossil fuel movement -- shamefully so for those of a so-called religious bent -- continue to apply pressure." (02/11/15)
