[editor's note: Because it draws so heavily on vivid imagination and convoluted conspiracy theory, "Obama Birther" material is difficult to excerpt concisely. This piece is yet another of those peeks into an alternate universe where Barack Obama is not a "natural-born citizen" - TLK] (02/20/12)

  • As in so many cases these days, the real question here is this one: "Is the United States of America a nation of laws or a nation ruled by powerful people who are above the law?" The answer, I think, is: "On paper, we are a nation of laws, but in the real world, we are a nation of liars, thieves and pirates, who pretend to obey the law, defended by a suborned and treasonous national media." Our plate is layered with filth and poison. This must be cleared away. If the ballot doesn't work, the bullet may. it defines the United States of America in this time that, merely by saying these words that echo the founding fathers, I could be imprisoned or killed. I'm saying it anyway, since that defines me.

    • Rocky,

In this particular case, no, I don't think that's the question, for the simple reason that under US law dating from the founding era (and rooted in pre-founding English common law, as opposed the pre-US French frippery in the "Law of Nations" essay that the birthers keep waving around), all reasonable interpretations thereof , and all court precedents — the Naturalization Act of 1790, Rawle's 1829 commentary, Lynch v. Clark, in re Look Tin Sing, US v. Wong Kim Ark … every sane source … there's no doubt whatsoever that Barack Hussein Obama is a "natural-born citizen."

      Period.
