"Humphreys was an American miller and statesman from Haverford, Pennsylvania. He is the son of Daniel Humphreys and Hannah Wynne (daughter of Dr. Thomas Wynne). He was a Delegate from Pennsylvania; born in Haverford, Delaware County, Pa., September 19, 1714; completed preparatory studies; engaged in milling; member of the Provincial Congress 1764-1774; Member of the Continental Congress 1774-1776; voted against the Declaration of Independence as he was a Quaker and opposed to war."
