"Readers of this magazine are familiar with the libertarian critique of Bush II’s military adventures: bombing and invading other countries without provocation not only runs counter to fundamental tenets of classical liberalism but also provides the state with more power to control the economy and violate the rights of citizens. That this criticism received very little attention in the first stages of the military response to 9/11 and during the invasion of Iraq could be explained by the disproportionate influence of pro-war libertarians operating from think tanks and magazines affiliated with the movement."
