"The nation’s 8,000 community health centers—non-profit organizations that provide primary care to medically underserved areas and populations—provide care to over 20 million patients a year, about half in rural areas. They do this at under half the cost of emergency rooms (where the uninsured might otherwise receive treatment), which is why they were a key component of the Obama administration’s healthcare reform law." [editor's note: And because that act did not focus on true reform, but only on shoring up the insurance game, these clinics are now the "low hanging fruit" getting defunded instead! - SAT] (10/06/11)
