"An asylum request by a Colombian rebel commander captured in Venezuela has put on hold the man's handover to Colombian authorities, a leader of the Venezuelan Communist Party said Monday. Guillermo Torres Cueter, better known by the alias 'Julian Conrado,' was captured in southwestern Venezuela in May. He is a senior commander of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia, or FARC, and Venezuela's government has said it intends to extradite him to Colombia." (08/15/11)
