"Whenever a baby encounters an object smaller than his fist, I guarantee he’s going to put it in his mouth. All of us must eat to continue living, and I suspect that at such an early age, it is difficult for the baby to differentiate between what you can and cannot eat. Therefore, the default reaction is to try to eat it. Often the object will pass through the alimentary canal with no damage to the object, or injury to the child. Naturally, as we grow older we become slightly more discriminating, although my mother would beg to differ." (08/13/11)
