"The careers of Ron Paul and Gary Johnson make a good case for libertarian participation in the Republican Party. Both men could have run on identical platforms as Libertarian Party candidates and would have received an infinitesimal number of votes. As Republicans, they won elections and were able to govern. Paul did secure the Libertarian presidential nomination in 1988, but he received more exposure and votes running a distant fourth in the 2008 Republican primaries." (08/03/11)
