“A group of pro-Palestinian protesters claimed they released 500 cockroaches, smashed windows and sprayed red paint at the University of California Office of the President in downtown Oakland on Sunday. A post on Indybay, authored by ‘sacred black and red,’ identified the writers as the people that vandalized the building ‘in solidarity with the Palestinian Resistance.’ Referring to the group as ‘anti-colonial anarchists and communists,’ the post said they used a ‘fire extinguisher filled with red paint’ to cover the building’s facade and break windows, and used a second fire extinguisher inside. The Oakland Police Department told SFGATE a group of people used an object to break the windows before ‘throwing paint on the walls’ and fleeing the area on foot.” (05/16/24)

“Police in New York City have arrested a suspect after actor Steve Buscemi was punched in an apparently random attack. Buscemi, who is known for his starring role in the television series Boardwalk Empire, was attacked on 8 May while walking in Manhattan. Police did not name who they arrested on Friday, but had earlier identified Clifton Williams, 50, as a suspect. The attack comes as the NYPD said they have seen an ‘uptick’ in assaults in the city. A publicist for Buscemi, 66, said earlier this week that the actor needed hospital treatment to his face after a ‘random act of violence’ in Manhattan’s Lower East Side, in which he suffered bruises and a bloody eye. “A Highlands County man is being praised by the sheriff’s office for stabbing an accused home intruder to death with a garden knife after deputies say the suspect shot the man’s wife. … When deputies arrived, they said they found a man and a woman, both 69, suffering from serious injuries. … According to Sheriff Paul Blackman, [Lindsey] Glenn tricked the victims to get inside the home and may have even given them a different name at one point. … Once he was inside, investigators say he pulled out a gun and shot the woman in the face. After seeing his wife get shot, deputies say the male victim grabbed a 7-inch garden knife and killed Glenn. … According to Blackman, Glenn has been convicted of at least 12 different felonies, which include robbery and burglary, and has been sent to state prison six times.” (05/17/24)
