"Maine senators voted 18-15 Monday against a bill that would create new crimes in state law, such as murder and assault, against 'unborn children.' In an initial vote, six Republicans joined 11 Democrats and independent Sen. Richard Woodbury of Yarmouth in rejecting the measure. One Democrat, Sen. Troy Jackson, D-Allagash, voted to support it. The bill will be scheduled for a vote in the House in the coming days. A House vote against the bill would kill it." (06/07/11)
