"The U.S., Britain and France are seeking to increase pressure on Laurent Gbagbo to give up the presidency of Ivory Coast by imposing United Nations sanctions on Gbagbo, his wife and three top aides. The initiative, which requires the unanimous consent of all 15 member governments of the UN Security Council, has met resistance from Russia, Ambassador Vitaly Churkin said. ... The U.S. Treasury Department last month barred Americans from conducting financial or commercial transactions with the same five people." (02/09/11)
