"Ghanaian President John Mahama and his main opponent in Wednesday's elections were neck and neck after the release of early provisional results as both candidates claimed the lead in the race for the presidency. Nana Akufo-Addo, the presidential candidate for the New Patriotic Party, led the count, winning 49.7 percent of more than 1.4 million votes from 44 of the West African nation's 275 constituencies, according to results published Thursday on the website of Citi FM, a broadcaster based in the capital, Accra. Mahama of the ruling National Democratic Congress had 48.6 percent of the vote, Citi FM said. Ghana's electoral commission hasn't yet verified the results. The winner needs a majority to avoid a second round of voting in a race which also features five other candidates." (12/08/16)
