"When Senate Clerk Russell Humphrey called House Clerk Joe McCord Wednesday morning and told him the state Senate approved an amendment to allow [sic] guns at the state capitol, McCord didn't believe him. 'No, I thought it was an April Fools' joke,' McCord said, smiling. McCord was not alone in his surprise: in addition to Tennessee senators approving a bill to quash local bans on guns in parks, they passed an unexpected amendment that allows [sic] people with gun permits to take guns into the state capitol and capitol complex. The Senate voted 26-7 on the amended bill; although a vote of approval sends the measure a step closer to Gov. Bill Haslam's desk, an amendment like the one added Wednesday could cripple the bill."
