"Belarusian judges have sentenced more than 600 people for taking part in massive anti-government protests over the weekend, a senior police official said Tuesday. President Aleksander Lukashenko on Sunday won a fourth term in office in an election condemned by most international observers as fraudulent. ... More than 20,000 people protested Lukashenko's victory after polls closed, defying a ban against demonstrating in public. Riot police dispersed the crowd, and government agents have since raided the homes and offices of most opposition leaders." (12/21/10)
